Junior & Youth Volunteers Programme

We believe volunteering starts from home while this programme also caters for duties outside our Jamatkhana premises including volunteering at events, helping in local charities, and completing courses on Alison or the Duke of Edinburgh. Our Youth Volunteers can also help in our institutions. All these duties will now be recorded on IIUK accordingly.

Our Junior & Youth Volunteers Programme
Why the new changes?

Our previous programme was not implemented in a lot of Jamatkhanas. It was:

  • Dependant on the Team Leader
  • Not fair on the Volunteer if they had been serving but did not get certification because a new Team Leader was appointed
  • Hard to log duties
  • There were not many choices of duties
What is involved in this new programme?

This programme targets all our children and youth up to the age of 18 years with;

  • A service record for each child on IIUK
    – This ensures continuity so that each child can continue his/her IV journey in any Jamatkhana across our Jurisdiction.
    – It enables each child to achieve professional recognition from external partner organisations for their duty.
  •
  • An increase in the number of duties a Volunteer can perform.
    – The duties are not only limited to inside Jamatkhana as we believe Seva should be performed in any form and anywhere, starting from home!
  • More challenging duties for the Youth Volunteers focusing on skills development
  • Our Youth Volunteers will be able to build new skills by working with our institutions. For example, they can be rewarded by spending a day with our AV Team, BAI and much more.
  • External Certifications to help in everyday life! These include First Aid, Duke of Edinburgh and more …..

With the support of all of our IV Leaders, Jamati M/Ks as well as the institutions, we believe our children can make a positive impact by developing themselves for the benefit of our Jamat and the communities within which we live.

Key Objectives

Youth development, encompassing skills training, motivation, and recognition, is among the IV’s prime objectives of fostering the spirit of volunteerism and community leadership in the young generation.

IV should be empowered to take on activities and structures at the national and local level to engage young Ismaili Volunteers, help them develop new skills, form lasting relationships, and internalise the ethic and spirit of Jamati service.

As a mentoring scheme for our youth, the Junior and Youth Development Programme (JYDP) forms a vital component of the Ismaili Volunteers.

This handbook gives Team Leaders the tools and information needed to run a fully functioning Junior and Youth Development programme within Jamatkhana. If you have any queries, please contact the JV Team by emailing ivc@iiuk.org

Within each Jamatkhana, a Team Leader is appointed to run the JYDP. He/she is part of the local IV Leadership team.

It is obligatory for the Team Leader to help the Junior and Youth Volunteers progress through the JYDP within their Jamatkhana. By doing so, they will find that the volunteers feel empowered to carry out voluntary seva, develop pride in wearing their uniform and will want to continue carrying out their voluntary duties.

Age

There is no minimum age to enrol in our programme but for the safety of our volunteers, we have added some rules.

  • Below the age of 6: The Junior Volunteer must be serving with a family member.
  • At the age of 13, the Junior Volunteer becomes a Youth Volunteer.
  • Finally, at the age of 18, the Youth Volunteer becomes a Volunteer.
Categories & Level

The new JYDP is split into three categories:

  • Foundation (below the age of 9 years old)
  • Advanced (between 9 to 13 years old)
  • Youth Volunteers (between 13 to 18 years old)

Each Volunteer will also be on different levels, and this will be determined by how many points they have accumulated.

Every 100 points accumulated moves the Volunteer onto the next level

For example Junior Volunteers on:

Level 1 will have Between 1 to 99 points,

Level 2 will have Between 100 to 199 points,

Level 3 will have Between 200 to 299 points

How does the programme work?

Every duty performed by a Junior/Youth Volunteer will be recorded by their Team Leader on IIUK

Our system will then automatically issue points!

  • 5 points will be issued to each Junior Volunteer who comes to Jamatkhana in the correct uniform
  • 10 points will be issued for each duty completed in Jamatkhana
  • The points allocated for duties outside Jamatkhana differ according to their difficulty

There is no limit on the number of points accumulated in one go. The more the better!
